Football Transfer News: Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo Join FC Barcelona on Loan

FC Barcelona made two exciting loan deals on the last day of the transfer window. They brought in two Portuguese players, Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City, respectively. This move comes as Barcelona looks to strengthen their team following a tough season where they finished third in La Liga and got knocked out of the Champions League in the last 16.

“Joao Felix Transfer To FC Barcelona”

First, let’s talk about Joao Felix, a 23-year-old forward who once held a record transfer fee of £113 million when he joined Atletico in 2019. He’s now in Barcelona on a season-long loan, without an option to buy. As part of the deal, Joao Felix has extended his contract with Atletico until 2029. Last season, he had a challenging time in the Premier League, scoring only four goals in 20 games for Chelsea, who decided not to make his transfer permanent this summer. Felix, who has been eager to play for Barcelona, will wear the number 14 shirt at the Nou Camp, following the footsteps of club legend Johan Cruyff.

“Joao Cancelo Transfer To FC Barcelona”

Next up is Joao Cancelo, a 29-year-old right-back who moved to Manchester City from Juventus for £60 million in 2019. He’s also joining Barcelona on loan for the season, with no purchase option. Cancelo was considered one of the world’s best full-backs in 2021 and 2022, contributing to two Premier League titles with City and making it to the PFA Team of the Year in both those seasons. However, he fell out of favor at Manchester City last season and spent the second half of the season on loan at Bayern Munich. His versatility, being able to play on both flanks and as a wing-back, will be a valuable addition to Barcelona’s defense.

Barcelona’s financial challenges meant they had to wait until the final day of the transfer window to secure these Portuguese talents Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo. Still, they managed to create enough salary cap space to afford their wages, with Ansu Fati’s loan move to Brighton helping in this regard. Barcelona’s coach, Xavi Hernandez, had identified Felix and Cancelo as his top targets and hopes they can rejuvenate the club’s fortunes in the upcoming season.
