Mitchell Starc Return in IPL 2024 After 9 Years, T20 World Cup Preparation
Mitchell Starc, the fast bowler from Australia, has said that he will play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. He hasn’t been a part of the IPL for eight years, the last time being in 2015 when he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Starc mentioned that he views the IPL as a good chance to prepare for the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled for June 2024 in the United States and the West Indies.
Although Starc regularly represents Australia in all formats of the game, he chose to skip the IPL in recent years. He did this to take care of his health and focus on playing for the national team. In 2018, he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a massive INR 9.4 crore but couldn’t participate due to an injury. He also didn’t take part in the IPL editions of 2019, 2020, and 2022.
Presently, Starc is recovering from a groin strain that kept him out of Australia’s ongoing ODI series against South Africa. However, he has been selected in Australia’s 15-player squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, which is set to begin next month. Starc is expected to be a vital player for Australia as they aim to clinch the World Cup title.
“Mitchell Starc Comeback Statement On IPL 2024”
“Amongst other things, it’s a great lead-up to the T20 World Cup. So a good opportunity to see if anyone’s interested in the IPL, then lead into the T20 World Cup. And it’s somewhat of a quiet winter next year in comparison to this winter, so I think a perfect opportunity to put my name in.”
“It took me a long time to feel like I was good enough Test cricket, So I want to give that the biggest crack I’ve got. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed white-ball cricket and that’s probably where I got my main opportunities as well. I’d like to be good enough to get to 100 Tests. Not just get to 100, I’d like to be good enough to be picked for 100 Tests.”
“And then you look at the one-day format, it’s sort of four years in between World Cups, so where do I see myself in that mix? But I’ve got to get to the end of this World Cup first. But we’ve got some superstars coming through. You’ve got your Jhye Richardsons, your Sean Abbotts, your Spencer Johnsons. You’ve got plenty of young guys coming through. Morris is going to be a gun. I try not to look too far ahead with anything. We want to do well in the World Cup. Then we’ve got five Test matches here in Australia and then I haven’t played a Test in New Zealand, so hopefully I’m on that tour and look forward to that challenge as well. Starc said on Willow Talk cricket podcast.”
Mitchell Starc return to the IPL is something that cricket fans worldwide can look forward to. We’ll get to see one of the best fast bowlers in action on tough pitches and conditions. This comeback is also a chance for Starc to improve his skills and get ready for his big goal of helping Australia win the T20 World Cup.
